CCS CMD Material Lab
In Materials Lab, first year graduate students at College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan engage in a series of experiments that examine material properties in making and applications to product concepts. The course supports the student in developing and innovating ideas using both proven and non-traditional techniques in Color and Material Design.
Projects
BDC is an international education program and competition that partners students with biologists, artists, and designers to envision, create, and critique emerging biotechnology.
Instructor Melanie McClintock, CMD Material Lab, competed in the 2021 Biodesign Challenge with three projects: Re-form, The Blot Project, and WEBtopia.
Instructor Matthew Strong, CMD Material Lab, competed in the 2020 Biodesign Challenge, with two projects: Zebra Glass and Mycelium Link.
“BDC’s goals are threefold: 1) to create a community of collaboration among artists, designers, and biologists; 2) seed the first generation of biodesigners ; and 3) build meaningful public dialogue about biotech and its uses.”
